The College Club of Boston

at 44 Commonwealth Avenue

About Our Club

Founded in 1890 as the first women’s college club in the United States.

The College Club of Boston is an inclusive club for individuals to come together and casually socialize, share stories and experiences, and continue to grow intellectually.

“A rich past, a dynamic present…” begins a description of our history. According to lore, 19 women gathered on a chilly December day in 1890 in the Back Bay and decided to form a club where they could “enjoy sociability and companionship” with like-minded-women (and now men).

With book and specialty clubs, afternoon teas, author lectures, and interactive events, our members engage and learn together. Members can also entertain in our historic brownstone and host family and friends in our Bed & Breakfast Victorian guestrooms, which are also available to non-members.
