Our Mission and Who Benefits

The College Club of Boston was founded in 1890 to engage the attention of increasing numbers of college women of the problems in education at all levels. True to the original mission, The College Club Scholarship Fund was established in 1985 to provide scholarships to Boston Public High School seniors to assist them with the financing of a college education.

With continuing support, we continue not only to carry out the mission of The College Club of Boston, but also to increase the amount of scholarship funds awarded each year.

The College Club Cookbook, 44 Commonwealth Cooks is a lovely and practical keepsake containing over 300 favorite recipes contributed by College Club members and selected Boston restaurant chefs, plus pictures, a brief Club history, interesting anecdotes , 18th century recipes and menus from such events as a Fannie Farmer Cooking Demonstration held at the Club in the 1960's. These cookbooks will make wonderful gifts for the holidays and other special occasions. All proceeds go to the Scholarship Fund. Call 617.536.9510 to order.

Scholarship History and Current Activity

In the Spring of 1986 the fund awarded a modest grant of $500 to one Boston Public High School senior. Each year since then the number and the amounts have increased so that we are now able to award $16,000 to $20,000 each year, which is shared by ten to twelve students.

Presently, scholarship funds are raised from the endowment income, various Club activities and contributions from members and friends. Gifts of appreciated stock are also appropriate donations to the Scholarship Fund. The College Club Scholarship Fund, Inc. qualifies as a charitable organization under IRS Section 501(c)(3) and contributions are tax-deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.
